These lecture notes are intended for graduate students having some knowledge of the basic theory of second-order parabolic and elliptic equations. Chapters 2--4 contain a brief review of this basic theory. Chapter 5 is devoted to sufficient conditions for blow-up. In Chapter 6, existence and symmetry of stationary solutions are discussed. In the next two chapters, the blow-up rate and the asymptotic behavior near a blow-up point are studied. In the last chapter, a result on the blow-up set and examples of complete and incomplete blow-up are given. The author succeeded in illustrating the basic methods using the simplest examples instead of trying to include the most general results. At the end of each chapter, there is a set of well-chosen exercises. The book provides material for a one-semester course for graduate students. It is a nice addition to the existing literature on blow-up since the previous books were mostly intended for more advanced readers.
