Let \(X\) be a holomorphic symplectic manifold, i.e., a smooth simply connected projective variety admitting a unique non-degenerate holomorphic two-form. The dimension of \(X\) is an even integer which we denote by \(2n\). When \(\dim X=2\), \(X\) is a K3 surface and its geometry is well understood. For example, it is known that if \(g\) is a polarization of \(X\), then the cone of effective curves \(\text{NE} _1(X)\subset\text{N}_1(X,\mathbb R )\) is characterized by \[ \text{NE} _1(X)=\langle C\in \text{N}_1(X,\mathbb Z):(C,C)\geq -2,\;C\cdot g>0\rangle. \] In this article, the authors attempt to generalize this result to higher dimensions. It is expected that there exists a universal constant \(c_X\in \mathbb Q _{>0}\) depending only on the deformation equivalence class of \(X\) such that: 1) If \(X'\) is a deformation of \(X\) containing a Lagrangian submanifold \(\mathbb P ^n\cong P'\subset X'\) and \(l\in H_2(X,\mathbb Z)\) is the class of a line on \(P'\), then \((l,l)=-c_X\). (Here, \((,)\) is induced by the normalized Beauville-Bogomolov form.) 2) If \(X\) admits a polarization \(g\), then \[ \text{NE} _1(X)= \langle C\in \text{N}_1(X,\mathbb Z):(C,C)\geq -c_X,\;C\cdot g>0\rangle. \] In this paper, the authors collect some evidence supporting the above expectations, and they study the intersection properties of extremal rays \(R\in \text{N}_1(X,\mathbb Z)\) whose corresponding contraction is divisorial.
