The authors study a boundary value problem in the half-space which consists of requiring that a harmonic function in the half-space satisfies a nonlinear boundary condition involving a positive parameter. The main results of the paper establish the existence of a positive solution and of a negative solution, and under an additional hypothesis, the existence of a sign-changing solution. A serious difficulty related to this problem arises from the lack of compactness. In order to verify the Cerami condition for some associated functional, the authors use the concentration-compactness principle. Another important tool in the authors' proofs is represented by the method of invariant sets.
