The authors study the existence of smooth traveling wave solutions, including standing wave solutions, for the phase field models in [\textit{H. D. Alber} and \textit{P. Zhu}, Arch. Ration. Mech. Anal. 185, No. 2, 235--286 (2007; Zbl 1117.74045), SIAM J. Appl. Math. 66, No. 2, 680--699 (2005; Zbl 1096.35068)]. The models are formulated for materials with two different phases, (phase 1 and phase 2) in which the order parameter \(v=v(x,t)\in\mathbb{R}\) is assumed to take values near \(v_{-}\) or \(v_{+}\) if the material is in the phase 1 or 2, respectively. Let \(u=(u^{i}(x,t))\in\mathbb{R}^{n}\) be the displacement of the material. Then the first model,, in which the order parameter is not conserved, is formulated as \[ -\text{div}_{x}T=B, \] \[ v_{t}=-(\psi_{_{v}}(\varepsilon,v)-\Delta_{x}v)|\nabla_{x}v|. \] The second model is the following \[ -\text{div}_{x}T=B, \] \[ v_{t}=\text{div}_{x}\big(\nabla_{x}(\psi_{_{v}}(\varepsilon,v)-\Delta_{x}v)|\nabla_{x}v|\big). \] The main purpose of the article is to study the existence of traveling wave and standing wave solutions for these problems.
