Summary: Effects of time delays on Hindmarsh-Rose (HR) model neurons are studied. For an individual neuron, with the scaling delay time and synaptic intensity, neuronal firing patterns transform among tonic spiking, busting and resting firing states, and the neuronal chaotic spikes could be controlled. Furthermore, two coupled HR neuronal systems could be fully synchronized under certain coupled strength and delay time.
