The paper uses critical point theory, and, in particular, minimization and the mountain pass theorem, to find sufficient conditions for the existence of a solution to the following boundary value problem for an impulsive differential equation \[ -u'' + g(t)u' + \lambda u = f(t,u) \quad \text{(a.e. }t \in [0,T]) \] \[ \Delta u'(t_j) = d_j \quad (j = 1,2,\dots,p) \] \[ u(0) = u(T) = 0, \] under various conditions upon \(g\) and \(f\). The formulation of the existence results is somewhat strange, involving conditions upon a parameter \(\lambda\) which does not occur in the problem, but only in an equivalent variational formulation. Furthermore, in the case of the application of the mountain pass lemma, it should be emphasized that a non-trivial solution is obtained.
