Nonlocal boundary value problems for higher order ordinary differential-operator equations on \([0,1]\), generated by an operator in UMD (unconditional martingale differences) Banach spaces, are considered. Using a result due to \textit{L. Weis} [Math. Ann. 319 (4), 735--758 (2001; Zbl 0989.47025)] on Mikhlin type operator-valued Fourier multipliers in UMD Banach spaces, the authors give algebraic conditions on the coefficients of the boundary value conditions, which guarantee an isomorphism for the mentioned problems, obtaining, consequently, maximal \(L_p\)-regularity for the problems. Moreover, Fredholmness of more general problems (with linear abstract perturbation operators both in the equation and boundary conditions) is established. The authors apply the obtained abstract results for the study of fourth order elliptic PDEs and eighth order quasielliptic PDEs in non-smooth domains.
