The author considers the backward heat equation that is used in order to model, e.g., heat propagation in thermophysics or in some other problems arising from continuum mechanics. The backward heat equation is usually ill-posed. The authors uses the Shannon wavelet regularization in order to approximate the backward heat equation efficiently. He shows theoretically almost sharp error estimates between the exact and the approximate solution. He also gives a rule for choosing an appropriate multi-resolution space that is used in order to get optimal error estimates.
