    The authors study the following Cauchy problem for the Klein-Gordon-Hartree equation \[ \begin{gathered}\square\varphi+ \varphi+ (|x|^{-\gamma}* |\varphi|^1)\varphi= 0\quad\text{in }\mathbb{R}\times \mathbb{R}^3,\;\square:= \partial_{tt}- \Delta,\\ \varphi|_{t= 0}= \varphi_1.\end{gathered}\tag{1} \] The main result of the paper is the following: let \(\gamma/4< s< 1\) with \(2<\gamma< 3\). If \((\varphi_0,\varphi_1)\in H^s(\mathbb{R}^3)\times H^{s-1}(\mathbb{R}^3)\), then there exists a unique global solution \(\varphi\) of (1) such that \(\varphi\in{\mathcal C}(\mathbb{R}_+; H^s(\mathbb{R}^3))\). The proof makes use of Bourgain's method in conjunction with a precise Strichartz estimate of S. Klainerman and D. Tastaru.
