The author presents some results around the super Poincaré inequality (SPI). It is shown that a variant of it where an \(L^{1}\) norm is replaced by an Orlicz norm is qualitatively equivalent to the original SPI and can be used to give another proof of the fact that bounding on the essential spectrum of the diffusion operator in \(\mathbb{R}^{n}\) imply an SPI. Beside it, the log Sobolev inequality for the Gaussian measure is obtained from the spectral decomposition of the generator of the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process.
