The author generalises the equivariant extension functor from \(C^\ast\)-algebras to \(\ast\)-algebras which embed into separable \(C^\ast\)-algebras. The functor is defined on certain categories of \(\ast\)-algebras and operator ideals, and takes values on abelian monoids. The author also studies the invertible elements in the corresponding monoid and identifies them as those that can be represented by equivariant Toeplitz extensions. In the case of trivial group actions, an explicit inverse to extensions admitting positive splitting is given. The paper finishes with an example of extensions of the smooth functions on a compact manifold by Schatten operators, and describing certain linear perturbations of a Toeplitz extension. The latter shows in particular, that the extension functor described in the paper is not homotopy invariant.
