A \(C^*\)-algebra \(A\) is called \(C^*\)-reflexive if any countably generated Hilbert \(C^*\)-module \(M\) over \(A\) is \(C^*\)-reflexive in the sense that its second dual module \(M''\) coincides with \(M\). It is known that, if \(X\) is a compact metric space, then \(C(X)\) is \(C^*\)-reflexive; cf. \textit{A. S. Mishchenko} [Tr. Mat. Inst. Steklova 166, 161--176 (1984; Zbl 0562.46038)]. The authors of the present paper show that \(l_2(C(X))\) is \(C^*\)-reflexive if \(X\) is a compact Hausdorff space which does not contain a copy of the Stone-Čech compactification \(\beta\mathbb{N}\) of the natural numbers \(\mathbb{N}\) [see \textit{V. A. Trofimov}, Russ. Math. Surv. 42, No.~2, 303--304 (1987); translation from Usp. Mat. Nauk 42, No.~2(254), 247--248 (1987; Zbl 0637.46047)]. They prove that a commutative \(C^*\)-algebra \(A\) is \(C^*\)-reflexive if and only if, for any sequence \(I_k\) of mutually orthogonal nonzero \(C^*\)-subalgebras, the canonical inclusion \(\bigoplus_kI_k \subset A\) does not extend to an inclusion of \(\prod_kI_k\). As an example, they show that, if \(A\) is the \(C^*\)-subalgebra of \(l^\infty\) consisting of all sequences \((a_n)\) such that \(\lim_{n\to \infty}|a_{n+1} - a_n| = 0\), then \(A\) is \(C^*\)-reflexive.
