For a set \(X\) and a lattice-ordered group \(G\), a metric (or quasimetric) from \(X\times X\) to \(G\) is defined. Then, corresponding to a positive filter on the group \(G\) (e.g., \(\mathbb N\) is a positive filter on \(\mathbb Z\)), a topology is induced on \(X\). It is established that every Tychonoff topology on \(X\) can be formulated in the above manner for an Archimedian positive filter. Consequences for topologies on lattice-ordered groups are studied. It is demonstrated, for example, that many topologies on \(G\) can not be induced by a positive filter on the same group \(G\). On the other hand, filters and their corresponding topologies are analyzed. Specific examples include the filter of weak units and the filter of strong units in the lattice-ordered group \(G\). For example, it is shown that the weak units induce the Euclidean topology on \(\mathbb R^n\).
