This paper gives a general definition of a Laurent series in many (or an infinite number) of variables and discusses the problem of constructing a formal inverse. This definition involves the weight of the degrees of the variables and it is assumed that a minimum weight exists. Under this assumption it can be shown if a Laurent series has exactly one monomial of minimum weight then an inverse can be defined. The paper considers in particular power series and sets of power series and discusses the existence and definition of the inverses. Finally a composition between two power series in infinitely many variables is considered which is known as a plethysm. An inversion formula for the composition is derived.
