The main contribution of the paper is to derive a non-Markovian Klein-Kramers equation to describe the Brownian motion of a particle immersed in a generic environment. From there one obtains the non-Markovian Caldeira-Leggett master equation by using a dynamical quantization. One then have a way to evaluate the thermal quantum force exerted by the heat bath on the Brownian motion of a free particle on the one hand, and the classical limit of this quantum force on the other hand.
