Let \(u\geq0\), \(u\not\equiv0\), be a solution of the fully nonlinear PDE \[ F(\nabla u,D^2 u)=f(u) \] in the domain \(\mathbb R\times(0,+\infty)\), with Dirichlet boundary condition, with \(f(0)\geq0\). The authors establish that \(u\) is positive and increasing in the second variable. Remarkably, no assumption is taken on the boundedness of either \(u\) or \(|\nabla u|\). The proof makes use and extends some nice geometric arguments of \textit{H. Berestycki, L. Caffarelli} and \textit{L. Nirenberg} [Ann. Sc. Norm. Super. Pisa, Cl. Sci., IV. Ser. 25, No. 1-2, 69--94 (1997; Zbl 1079.35513)] and \textit{L. Damascelli} and \textit{B. Sciunzi} [Differ. Integral Equ. 23, No. 5--6, 419--434 (2010; Zbl 1240.35208)].
