Let \(G\) be a discrete group and \(\mathcal{VC}\) be the family of virtually cyclic subgroups of \(G\). The author constructs a model, \(\underline{\underline E}G\), for the universal space for this family in the special case of a group of the form \(G=B\times\mathbb Z\) and where the action of \(\mathbb Z\) on the set of conjugacy classes of non-trivial elements of \(B\) is free. Based on this construction the author gives bounds on the geometric dimension, \(\underline{\underline{gd}}\,G\), of \(G\) with respect to \(\mathcal{VC}\), this is by definition the least possible dimension of a model for \(\underline{\underline E}G\). The author proves the following theorems regarding this: Theorem 15. Let \(G=B\rtimes\mathbb Z\) and assume \(\mathbb Z\) acts freely via conjugation on the conjugacy classes of non-trivial elements of \(B\). Then, \(\underline{\underline{gd}}\,B\leq\underline{\underline{gd}}\,G\leq\underline{\underline{gd}}\,B+1\). The author also proves Theorem 20. Let \(G=BS(1,m)\) be a soluble Baumslag-Solitar group. Then, \(\underline{\underline{gd}}\,G=3\) if \(|m|=1\), and \(2\) otherwise.
