An embedding problem \(\mathbb{E}\) for a profinite group \(\Pi\) is a pair of profinite groups \(\Gamma\) and \(G\) and epimorphisms \(\alpha : \Pi \to G\) and \(f : \Gamma \to G\). The embedding problem \(\mathbb{E}\) is said to be finite if \(\Gamma\) is finite, it is called a \(p\)-embedding problem if the kernel of \(f\) is a \(p\)-group, and it is called properly solvable if there is an epimorphism \(\beta : \Pi \to \Gamma\) such that \(f\beta=\alpha\). The paper under review proves that if \(K\) is a field of characteristic \(p > 0\) admitting a valuation whose value group is non-\(p\)-divisible, then every finite \(p\)-embedding problem for the absolute Galois group \(\text{Gal}(K)\) is properly solvable. The problem of solvability of embedding problems arose in connection with the celebrated inverse Galois problem pertaining to the realizability of a given finite group as the Galois group of some extension of the field of rational numbers.
