In a previous paper [``Bulk universality for generalized Wigner matrices'', \url{arXiv:1001.3453}], the authors studied the universality of the eigenvalue spacing statistics of generalized Wigner matrices. The universal Wigner matrices, characterized by their variance \(\sigma^2_{ij}\) such that \(\sum_{i} \sigma^2_{ij} = 1\) for any fixed \(j\), include as a special case also the generalized Wigner matrices. In this paper, the local semicircle law is improved without the need for the the logarithmic Sobolev inequality and in this way it is possible to prove the universality for generalized Wigner matrices with Bernoulli distribution which was excluded in the previous paper. The main result is that the error of the Stieltjes transform of the semicircle law is improved from \((N \eta)^{-1/2}\) to \((N \eta)^{-1}\), where \(\eta = \Im \text{m} z\), \(z\) being the parameter of the Stieltjes transform of the empirical measure of the eigenvalues \(\{ \lambda_j \}^N_{j = 1}\) and \(N\) is the size of the matrix.
