In this book thermodynamic formalism and its relation to dimension theory is presented. The Hausdorff dimension and box dimension of certain invariant subsets of a dynamical system (in particular repellers) are related to the topological pressure. This theory is at first developped for the classical thermodynamic formalism, this means for the sequence \((\varphi_{n})\), where \(\varphi_{n}= \sum_{k=0}^{n-1}\varphi\circ f^{k}\), \(X\) is compact, \(f:X\to X\) is continuous, and \(\varphi :X\to\mathbb{R}\) is continuous. One calls this case also the additive case because \(\varphi_{n+m}=\varphi_{n}+ \varphi_{m}\circ f^{n}\) holds. Then the theory is extended to the nonadditive thermodynamic formalism, hence for more general sequences \((\varphi_{n})\). In the following chapters this is specialized for the subadditive thermodynamic formalism and finally to the almost additive thermodynamic formalism. Also results on multifractal analysis are presented. The book presents results very close to the present research. It gives a good overview on the results known today. Also the proofs to the results are given. Hence it is possible to read this book without considering other books or research papers. In order to obtain this self-containedness, sometimes the author presents proofs which are more elementary than the proofs one would usually find in the literature. For scientists working in this area it is a very good book where one can find results and their proofs which are very close to the present state of research. Moreover, also beginners can profit from reading this book. One can certainly recommend to read this very well written book.
