Let \(\mathcal{F}\) be a holomorphic (singular) foliation on a projective surface. Given a dominant rational map \(\phi\) preserving the foliation, it is interesting to classify the pairs \((\mathcal F, \phi)\). Thanks to the results contained in [\textit{S. Cantat} and the first author, J. Reine Angew. Math. 561, 199--235 (2003; Zbl 1070.32022); the second author and \textit{P. F. Sanchéz}, Commun. Anal. Geom. 10, No. 5, 1115--1123 (2002; Zbl 1039.32027)], the situation is completely understood when \(\phi\) is birational, whereas for \(\phi\) non-invertible the unique result known in the literature is contained in [\textit{M. Dabija} and \textit{M. Jonsson}, Int. J. Math. 19, No. 2, 217--221 (2008; Zbl 1159.32009)]. In the present paper, with an approach based on foliated Mori theory, the authors provide a classification of pairs \((\mathcal F, \phi)\), where \(\phi\) is a non-invertible dominant rational map preserving \(\mathcal{F}\). The main result is the following: Given a holomorphic singular foliation \(\mathcal{F}\) on a projective surface \(X\) without rational first integrals, and \(\phi\) a non-invertible dominant rational map preserving \(\mathcal{F}\), then up to a birational conjugacy, there exists a \(\phi\)-Zarisky open dense subset \(\mathcal{U}\) in \(X\) such that \(\mathcal{U}\) is a quotient of \(\mathbb{C}^2\) by a discrete subgroup \(\Gamma\subset\)\text{Aff}\((\mathbb{C}^2)\) acting discontinuously on \(\mathbb{C}^2\), \(X\) is an equivariant compactification of \(\mathbb{C}^2/\Gamma\), \(\phi\) lifts to an affine map on \(\mathbb{C}^2\), and, in suitable coordinates, \(\mathcal{F}\) is defined in \(\mathbb{C}^2\) by \(dx\) or by \(d(y+e^x)\). (Recall that a foliation has a rational first integral if it is defined by a pencil of curves.) The proof is based on the study of the classification up to a finite covering and birational conjugacy of invariant foliations without rational first integrals of Kodaira dimensions 0 and 1, and of invariant fibrations. As a corollary, the authors obtain the generalization of Corollary 1.3 of [\textit{S. Cantat} and the first author, loc. cit.] to the non-invertible case. Moreover, they are able to extend the results of Dabija and Jonsson [loc. cit.] to arbitrary foliations.
