The authors study a class of singularly perturbed parabolic convection-diffusion problems with discontinuous convection coefficients. This kind of equations describes some problems from fluid dynamics, heat and mass transfer in chemical and nuclear engineering. The problems will become very complex when the diffusion parameter is very small. To solve these parabolic equations, the authors present the finite difference schemes of second-order in space by the backward-Euler method in time and a hybrid finite difference method in space. Error estimates are given and numerical experiments are shown to verify the theoretical results.
