The main result of the paper is the following approximation theorem for the pluricomplex Green function for Reinhardt domains. Let \(D\subset\mathbb C^n\) be a bounded polynomially convex Reinhardt domain and let \(G\) be its pluricomplex Green function with pole at \(0\). Then there exists a sequence of homogeneous polynomial mappings \[ P^{(s)}=\big(P^{(s)}_1,\dots,P^{(s)}_n\big):\mathbb C^n\longrightarrow\mathbb C^n \] such that \[ \begin{aligned} &q_s:=\deg P^{(s)}_1=\dots=\deg P^{(s)}_n,\\ &\Big\{z\in\mathbb C^n: P^{(s)}_1(z)=\dots=P^{(s)}_n(z)=0\Big\}=\{0\}, \quad\text{and}\\ &\nu_s:=\frac{1}{q_s}\max_k\left|P^{(s)}_k\right|\longrightarrow G\quad\text{uniformly on }D\setminus\{0\}. \end{aligned} \] Moreover, the sequence \((\max\{\nu_s,0\})_{s=1}^\infty\) converges uniformly in \(\mathbb C^n\) to the Green function for \(\overline D\) with a pole at infinity. As consequences the authors get the following two approximation results. {\parindent=6mm \begin{itemize}\item[(1)]Let \(D\subset\mathbb C^n\) be a bounded polynomially convex Reinhardt domain. Then for every \(\varepsilon>0\) there exist homogeneous polynomials \(p_1,\dots,p_n\) of \(n\) variables such that \[ \begin{aligned} &\deg p_1=\dots=\deg p_n,\\ &\Big\{z\in\mathbb C^n: p_1(z)=\dots=p_n(z)=0\Big\}=\{0\},\quad\text{and}\\ &\overline D\subset\Big\{z\in\mathbb C^n: |p_k(z)|<1,\;k=1,\dots,n\Big\}\subset(1+\varepsilon)D. \end{aligned} \] \item[(2)]Let \(K\subset\mathbb C^n\) be a polynomially convex Reinhardt compact set. Then for every open neighborhood \(U\) of \(K\) there exist homogeneous polynomials \(p_1,\dots,p_n\) of \(n\) variables such that \[ \begin{aligned} &\deg p_1=\dots=\deg p_n,\\ &\Big\{z\in\mathbb C^n: p_1(z)=\dots=p_n(z)=0\Big\}=\{0\},\quad\text{and}\\ & K\subset\Big\{z\in\mathbb C^n: |p_k(z)|<1,\;k=1,\dots,n\Big\}\subset\subset U.\end{aligned} \] \end{itemize}}
