    A Schubert class \(\sigma _\lambda\) is called rigid if only Schubert varieties are the proper subvarieties of the Grassmannian \(G(k,n)\) representing \(\sigma _\lambda\). The main results of this paper are: (1) \(\sigma _\lambda\) is rigid iff in \(\lambda = (\mu_1^{i_1},\ldots ,\mu_j^{i_j})\) does not exists an index \(1\leq s < j\) with \(i_s=1\) and \(n-k > \mu _s =\mu_{s+1}+1\). (2) If in \(\lambda = (\mu_1^{i_1}, \ldots ,\mu_j^{i_j})\) there exists an index \(1 \leq s < j\) such that \(i_s \not =1\) and \(n-k > \mu _s\) or there exists an index \(1\leq s < j\) such that \(n-k > \mu _s \not = \mu _{s+1}+1\) then \(\sigma _\lambda \) cannot be represented by a smooth subvariety of \(G(k,n)\).
