The authors prove an equivalence of norms on the space \(F^C_c(M)\) which is defined as the finite linear combinations of continuous (1,\(\infty\))-atoms with compact support over \(M\). Here \((M, \rho, \mu)\) is a space of homogeneous type. The norms considered are as follows: \[ \|f\|_{F^C_c}=\inf \left\{ \sum_{j=1}^N|\lambda_j|: f=\sum_{j=1}^N\lambda_j a_j; \quad N\in \mathbb{N}^\ast \right\} \] where \(a_j\) is a continuous (1,\(\infty\))-atom with compact support, and \[ \|f\|_{H^1}=\inf \left\{ \sum_{k=1}^{+\infty}|\lambda_k|: f=\sum_{k=1}^{+\infty}\lambda_k a_k\right\} \] where \(a_k\) is a (1,\(\infty\))-atom. The main theorem, proved in section 3 of the paper, gives the inequalities \[ \|f\|_{H^1}\leq \|f\|_{F^C_c}\leq C\|f\|_{H^1} \] for all \(f\in F^C_c(M)\). Similar inequalities are obtained for (1,\(q\))-atoms, with \(1<q<+\infty\), and the corresponding norms of \(F^q\) and \(H^{1,q}\) spaces. The proof of this result is based on the fact that the embedding of \(F^C_c(M)\) in \(H^1(M)\) induces an isomorphism of the dual spaces. More general settings such as locally doubling measured metric spaces are also studied in section 4.
