Given a complex \(K3\) surface \(X\) one can consider the moduli space of stable sheaves with topological invariants fixed by a so-called Mukai vector \(v\). For certain choices this space turns out to be a \(K3\) surface \(Y\) and the Chern class of the quasi-universal sheaf on \(X\times Y\) gives a correspondence between \(X\) and \(Y\). In a series of papers with \textit{C. Madonna} [Proc. Steklov Math. Inst. 241, 120--153 (2003; Zbl 1076.14046); in: Strings and geometry. Proceedings of the Clay Mathematics Institute 2002 sommer school, Isaac Newton Institute, Cambridge, United Kingdom, March 24 -- April 20, 2002. Providence, RI: American Mathematical Society (AMS). Cambridge, MA: Clay Mathematics Institute. Clay Mathematics Proceedings 3, 285--300 (2005; Zbl 1156.14318); Izv. Math. 72, No. 3, 497--508 (2008; Zbl 1162.14025)], the author previously studied the question when \(X\cong Y\) and gave a complete answer if the Picard number of \(X\) is 1 or 2 and \(X\) is general for its Picard lattice. In the paper under review the author gives an answer for arbitrary Picard number. Roughly speaking, one has that \(Y\) is isomorphic to \(X\) if and only if the correspondence defined by \(v\) is numerically equivalent up to sign to a composition of some special self-correspondences of \(X\), namely those defined by \((-2)\)-roots, so-called Tyurin's isomorphisms and correspondences associated to certain Mukai vectors. As an application the author characterises \(K3\) surfaces with reflective Picard lattice (that is, the automorphism group of the lattice is generated by reflections up to finite index) in terms of self-correspondences via moduli of sheaves.
