In a somewhat apocryphal letter from Euler to Daniel Bernoulli Euler reported about his success in summing \(1/k^2\) and the steps he had to go through to prove it. Euler `saw' that some series converged but did not prove it. After presenting the letter the author gives the missing proofs.
