It is well known that an eigenvalue in the continuous spectrum of a given operator is generally removed when small perturbations of the operator are considered. In this paper, the authors are interested in the structure of the set of perturbations which do not remove an embedded eigenvalue. Specifically, they show that, under appropriate conditions, for a simple eigenvalue embedded in the continuous spectrum of finite multiplicity, say \(m\), the set of small perturbations which do note remove this eigenvalue form a smooth manifold of codimension \(m\). They also present results concerning the case when the eigenvalue is degenerate or when the multiplicity of the continuous spectrum is infinite.
