The authors study complete oriented hypersurfaces \(M\) of constant mean curvature in hyperbolic space~\(\mathbb H^{n+1}\). The authors obtain rigidity theorems for horospheres and totally umbilic spheres. The main technique of the article is to view the \(n+1\)-dimensional hyperbolic space as a hypersurface in \(n+2\)-dimensional Minkowski space \(\mathbb L^{n+2}\), namely \[ \mathbb H^{n+1}=\{x\in \mathbb L^{n+2}\mid \langle x,x\rangle=-1,\quad x_1>0\}. \] The hypersurface \(M\) in \(\mathbb H^{n+1}\) then has a Gauss map \[ N:M\to \mathbb S^{n+1}_1:= \{x\in \mathbb L^{n+2}\mid \langle x,x\rangle=1\}. \] The authors prove for example: If \(N(M)\) is a totally umbilic space-like hypersurface in \(\mathbb S^{n+1}_1\) and if \(M\) is contained in a geodesic ball in \(\mathbb H^{n+1}\), then \(M\) is a totally umbilic sphere (i.e. the boundary of a ball). Similar rigidity statements are also derived for horospheres.
