Differential equations with delay are systems which depend not only on solution at the present state but also on solutions at some past states. In population dynamics and epidemiology etc., there are many models which can be described as this kind of systems. Compared with the development of numerical methods in delay ordinary differential equations, delay partial differential equations are less well understood. In this paper, for the two-dimensional heat conduction equations with time delay the authors present an alternating direction scheme. By reducing the problem with inhomogeneous boundary conditions to a problem with homogeneous boundary conditions, they investigate the stability, numerical error and convergence order for the constructed numerical method.
