Suppose that \(A\) is an abelian variety of dimension \(g\) and that \(L\) is an ample line bundle on \(L\). Suppose that \(\varepsilon(A, L)\) is the Seshadri constant of \(L\) on \(A\) (see Section 5.3 of [\textit{R. Lazarsfeld}, Positivity in algebraic geometry. I. Classical setting: Line bundles and linear series. II: Positivity for vector bundles, and multiplier ideals. Berlin: Springer. (2004; Zbl 1066.14021)]). This is a measure of the local positivity of \(L\) at points of \(A\). Recently, \textit{J.-M. Hwang} and { W.-K. To} [in: Complex and differential geometry. Conference held at Leibniz Universität Hannover, Germany, September 14--18, 2009. Springer Proceedings in Mathematics 8, 157--170 (2011; Zbl 1227.14013); \url{arXiv:1003.0742}] related these constants to projective normality. This paper uses the methods of multiplier ideals to obtain results about further syzygies. Their main result is as follows: Theorem A. Assume that \(\varepsilon(A, L) > (p+2)g\). Then \(L\) satisfies property \((N_p)\). Here \((N_p)\) is a condition on syzygies of an embedding described for instance in Section 1.8.D of [loc. cit.].
