This book recounts various search operations on the pyramid of Cheops made at the request of the Egyptian and French authorities during 1986--1987. In the autumn of 1986, after the end of the operation on the King's chamber conducted under the Technological and Scientific Sponsorship of Electricité de France (EDF), to locate a cavity, the author was called to solve a mathematical inverse problem, to find the unknown tomb of the King and the density structure of the whole pyramid based on measurements of microgravity made inside and outside of the pyramid. The solution of the inverse problem confirmed the results of auscultations, but did not find any cavity. The book ends with the greatest mystery of the pyramid about the unknown tomb of the King. The book is richly illustrated with color figures, and there is a lot of useful information concerning physics, mechanics and the history of Egyptian antiquities. The book contains five chapters. Chapter 1 presents some microgravity studies at EDF. Chapter 2 is devoted to microgravity as a geotechnical method used in engineering. It explains the difference between exploration and inversion. Chapter 3 presents the results on the density imaging of the pyramid. Chapter 4 makes a tentative interpretation of the density image in a virtual reconstruction of the pyramid. Finally, Chapter 5 gives the details for a graphical interpretation of the results. The author is an expert in theory and applications in solid mechanics and inverse problems. The book is written in a simple and clear manner. It will be of immense use to students and researchers in the field of architecture and solid mechanics.
