Extended Chebyshev spaces are an approach to generalise polynomial and polynomial spline spaces, and therefore it is important to ask which parameters to these spaces result in function spaces suitable for geometric design. As soon as a piecewise structure is used, so-called connection matrices are needed in order to define the continuity properties between the individual pieces (and their derivatives) at the knots. Thus we may ask which connection matrices give rise to spline spaces that are suitable for geometric design. Here, the spaces are considered to be suitable as soon as blossoms exists or, equivalently, B-spline bases exist in the spline space and all other spline spaces that are generated by knot insertion. Both the construction of spaces which are good for geometric design is considered, as well as the characterisation of all spaces which are. Further, the mentioned B-splines can be constructed via integral recurrence relations which are also established.
