Every finitely generated group is weakly exact (Q647635)

In an earlier paper [J. Topol. Anal. 3, No. 1, 89--107 (2011; Zbl 1248.57002)] the authors introduced the notion of an invariant expectation, a map whose existence characterizes exact groups. By adjusting the space on which the map is defined one may weaken or strengthen this condition. The main result of the present paper is that a certain weakening of this condition holds for all finitely-generated groups. Despite its prevalence, this weak exactness still leads to useful consequences, for example that bounded cohomology groups with coefficients in weak-{*} Hopf \(G\)-modules vanish in all positive degrees. This, in turn, provides a counterexample to a conjecture in the earlier paper.
