The paper is inspired by retract extensions of semigroups, and is a continuation of a paper on ideal extensions of lattices (see [the author, Russ. Math. 53, No. 2, 41--58 (2009; Zbl 1181.06001)]). Let \(L\) and \(K\) be lattices with \(0\) and \(L\cap K^{\ast }=\emptyset \). A lattice \(V\) is called an ideal extension of \(L\) by \(K\) if there is an ideal \( L^{\prime }\) of \(V\) isomorphic to \(L\) (\(\phi :L\longrightarrow L^{\prime }\) denotes the isomorphism) and the Rees quotient \(V|L^{\prime }\) is isomorphic to \(K\). The extension \(V\) is called a retract if there exists a \(\wedge \)-homomorphism \(g:V\longrightarrow L\) such that \(g(x)=\phi ^{-1}(x)\) for all \( x\in L^{\prime }\). The main result is a theorem that gives necessary and sufficient conditions -- denoted (S1)--(S6) -- for the existence of a retract extension \(V\) of \(L\) by \(K \). In the final part, an illustrative example is given.
