    In this paper under review, the authors establish large \(z\) asymptotics for the Lerch transcendent defined by NEWLINE\[NEWLINE\Phi(z, s, a)=\sum_{k=0}^\infty \frac{z^k}{ (a+k)^s}, \quad 1-a\notin \mathbb N, \quad | z| <1. NEWLINE\]NEWLINEIn several publications, the main tool to obtain asymptotic expansions for \(\Phi(z, s, a)\) is the integral representation NEWLINE\[NEWLINE\Phi(z, s, a)=\frac{1}{\Gamma(s)}\int_0^\infty \frac{x^{s-1}e ^{-ax}}{1-ze^{-x}}\,d x, \quad \operatorname{Re} (a)>0, \quad \operatorname{Re} (s)>0, \quad z\notin[1, \infty).NEWLINE\]NEWLINEIn [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 298, No. 1, 210--224 (2004; Zbl 1106.11034)], \textit{C. Ferreira} and \textit{J. Lopez} used the above integral representation to derive large \(z\) asymptotics for \(\Phi(-z, s, a)\) with an error \(O(z^{-N})\) when the sums are truncated up to \(N\). However, the authors of the present paper notice that when using the Mellin-Barnes integral representation NEWLINE\[NEWLINE\Phi(-z,s,a)=\frac{1}{2\pi i}\int_L \frac{\Gamma(1+t)\Gamma(-t)z^t}{(a+t)^s} dt,NEWLINE\]NEWLINEin which \(L\) is a contour from \(-i\infty\) to \(i\infty\) which crosses the real \(t\)-axis somewhere in the interval \(\big(\max(- \Re a, -1),0\big)\), they establish an efficient large \(z\) asymptotics for \(\Phi(-z, s, a)\) for an integer \(s\) and non-integer \(s\) and they obtain an approximation that is accurate up to order \(O(z^{-N-1})\).
