The author extends the notion of total positivity of operators to what she calls as generalized totally positive (GTP) operators and generalized strictly totally positive (GSTP) operators. It is shown that all the eigenvalues of a GSTP operator are positive and simple. She also provides alternative proofs of and new insights into the classical results of Gantmacher and Krein for totally positive and strictly totally positive matrices.
