From the authors' abstract/introduction: We find new classes of spaces that admit a compact transversal and/or \(T_1\)-independent topology and present several examples and counterexamples\dots\ The Alexandroff duplicate of a topological space plays an important role in our considerations. It proved to be especially useful when constructing topologies which are both transversal to and \(T_1\)-independent of the topology of a given space\dots\ . Here we develop further the methods from [\textit{I. Juhász}, the second author, \textit{V. V. Tkachuk} and \textit{R. G. Wilson}, Rocky Mt. J. Math. 35, No. 4, 1157--1172 (2005; Zbl 1142.54017); \textit{D. Shakhmatov} and the second author, Fundam. Math. 175, No. 2, 163--173 (2002; Zbl 1020.54002); \textit{D.
