The author investigates the modified Mellin transform \[ {\mathcal Z}_1(s,\rho) := \int_1^\infty |\zeta(\rho+ix)|^2x^{-s}\,dx, \] where initially \(\sigma = \text{Re}(s) >1\) and \(\rho \geq 1/2\), and it has a meromorphic continuation for \(s\in \mathbb C\). This function was already dealt with in the case \(\rho = 1/2\). For example, see the works of \textit{M. Jutila} [Period. Math. Hung. 42, No. 1--2, 179--190 (2001; Zbl 1012.11082)], the reviewer [Int. J. Number Theory 1, No. 1, 65--73 (2005; Zbl 1077.11060)] and \textit{M. Lukkarinen} [``The Mellin transform of the square of Riemann's zeta-function and Atkinson's formula.'' Ann. Acad. Sci. Fenn. Math. Diss. 140 (2005; Zbl 1073.11059)]. The present paper is a continuation of the author's work on the same subject (see e.g., [Integral Transforms Spec. Funct. 22, No. 7, 467--476 (2011; Zbl 1238.11079) and ibid. 22, No. 9, 617--629 (2011; Zbl 1239.11092)]). The author now proves the growth estimate \[ {\mathcal Z}_1(\sigma +it,\rho) \ll_{\sigma_0} t^{1-\sigma}\log t\qquad (1/2 < \rho < 1,\; 0 < \sigma_0 \leq \sigma \leq 1,\; t \geq 2).\leqno(1) \] In the case when \(\rho = 1/2\), the reviewer, \textit{M. Jutila} and \textit{Y. Motohashi} [Acta Arith. 95, No. 4, 305--342 (2000; Zbl 0960.11039)] had the bound \(t^{1-\sigma+\varepsilon}\). In his proof of (1) the author employs the explicit formula for the mean square of \(|\zeta(\sigma+it)|\) in the critical strip, as well as other tools from analytic number theory.
