A countable group \(G\) is in the class \({\mathcal A}\) if it admits an amenable, faithful and transitive action on an infinite countable set. The question of which groups are contained in \({\mathcal A}\) was raised by von Neumann and has been studied by many authors. In this paper the following is shown: Let \(n,m\geq 1\). Let \(G= \mathbb{F}_{m+1}*_{\mathbb{Z}} \mathbb{F}_{m+1}\) be an amalgamated free product of two free groups over a cyclic subgroup such that the image of the generator of \(\mathbb{Z}\) is cyclically reduced in both free groups. Then any finite index subgroup of \(G\) is in \({\mathcal A}\). This work generalizes the work of the author from [Groups Geom. Dyn. 4, No. 2, 309--332 (2010; Zbl 1193.43001)] where the case \(m= n= 1\) is studied.
