The author considers abstract operator equations of the form \(Lu= f\), where \(L\) is a closed operator on a Banach space \(F\) which commutes with operators from a \(C_0\)-group of isometric operators \(V(t)\). This operator equation includes, e.g., the operator equation \[ Du - Bu = f, \tag{\(*\)} \] where \(D\) is the generator of \(V(t)\) and \(B\) is a closed linear operator which commutes with \(V(t)\). The author introduces the equation spectrum \(\Sigma\) and proves that, if \(f\) is an almost periodic element (with respect to the group \(V(t)\)) and \(\Sigma\) is countable, then any solution \(u\) of the equation (\(*\)) is almost periodic, provided that either \(c_0 \not\subset F\) or \(u\) is totally ergodic. The presented approach, when applied to functional-differential equations, gives spectral criteria of almost periodicity of bounded uniformly continuous solutions. The discrete version of the results, with applications to properties of solutions of functional-difference equations, is described as well. Several examples of abstract equations are considered, e.g., abstract Volterra equations, first and second order abstract Cauchy problems, convolution equations, and abstract difference equations. Topics for further analysis are given.
