The author considers a semilinear elliptic equation of the form \[ -\triangle u=f(u) \;\text{in } \mathbb{R}^N, \] where \(f\in C^1(\mathbb{R})\) is a general nonlinearity, \(N\geq 1\). In a bounded domain \(\Omega \subset \mathbb{R}^N\) the above stated equation is a Euler-Lagrange equation associated to the energy functional \[ E_{\Omega}(u)=\int\limits_{\Omega }\biggl(2^{-1}|\nabla u|^2+G(u)\biggr)dx, \] where \(G'=-f\). The main statement here is the nonexistence of nonconstant global minimizers of the above stated problem satisfying the condition \[ \lim\limits_{|x|\to\infty }u(x)=u_{\infty }\in\mathbb{R}, \;\text{for every} \;N\geq 1 . \] As a corollary it turns out that the equation under consideration has no nonconstant bounded radial global minimizers either.
