The author first establishes a localized Hamilton-type gradient estimate for positive solutions of a special porous media type equations on a complete Riemannian manifold with Ricci curvature bounded from below. This is then applied to the fast diffusion equation (FDE), and porous media equation (PME), to obtain localizes Hamilton-type gradient estimates, which have a larger range than those for the Aronson-Benilan estimate, the Harnack inequalities, and Cauchy problems that were previously available in the literature. Finally these estimates are employed to establish some Liouville-type theorems for positive solutions of FDE and PME on non-compact complete manifolds having nonnegative Ricci curvature, which generalizes Yau's Liouville theorem for posiitive harmonic functions. Contents include: Introduction (containing a detailed discussion of previously known results); Hamilton-type gradient estimates; Gradient estimates and Liouville theorems for FDE and PME; Appendix; References (thirteen items).
