The paper under review deals with the following old question of I. M. Gelfand: Why are some important problems in integral geometry related to harmonic analysis on groups but for other quite similar problems such relations are not clear? In the paper, some standard problems in integral geometry generating harmonic analysis on pairs of commutative hypergroups lying in duality of Pontryagin's type are indicated. As a result, some new meaningful examples of hypergroups are constructed.
