The authors study a class of weakly coupled elliptic differential operators \(\mathcal A\) with unbounded coefficients on \(\mathbb R^{N}\), defined on smooth functions \(\psi: \mathbb R^{N}\rightarrow \mathbb R^{M}\). They prove that a semigroup \((T(t))_{t \geq 0}\) of bounded linear operators can be associated with \(\mathcal A\) on the space of bounded continuous functions. Optimal Schauder estimates for the solution of some nonhomogeneous elliptic equations and Cauchy problems associated with the operator \(\mathcal A\) are obtained. Under suitable additional conditions, it is shown that that the restriction of the semigroup to the subspace of smooth, compactly supported functions extends to a strongly continuous semigroup on \(L ^{ p }(\mathbb R^{N}, \mathbb R^{M})\), \(1\leq p < \infty\). Sufficient conditions for the analyticity of this strongly continuous semigroup and some \(L^p\)-\(L^q\)-estimates are given.
