Let \((M^m,\,g_M)\) be a smooth closed Riemannian manifold and let \([g_M]\) denote the conformal class of the metric \(g_M\). The Yamabe constant of the conformal class \((M^m,[g_M])\) is defined as the infimum of the normalized total scalar curvature restricted to \([g_M]\) and can be also expressed by the Yamabe functional. The functions that achieve the infimum of the Yamabe functional are called Yamabe minimizers. In the reviewed paper the author is interested in the Yamabe constant of \((N,g)=(M\times\mathbb R^n,[g_M+g_E])\), where \((M,g_M)\) is a closed manifold with positive scalar curvature \(S_{g_M}\) and \(g_E\) is the Euclidean metric. First the author proves that if \(u\) is a positive function in \(L_1^2(N)\), then its Steiner symmetrization \(u^\ast\) with respect to \(M\) is also a positive function in \(L_1^2(N)\) and satisfies \(||\nabla u^\ast||_2\leqslant||\nabla u||_2\). Basing on this result and using the ideas of the classical proof of the Yamabe problem for compact manifolds, the author proves the main result of this paper: Let \((N,g)=(M^m\times\mathbb R^n,g_M+g_E)\), with \(n,m\geqslant 2\) and \(S_{g_M}>0\). The Yamabe minimizer of \((N,g)\) exists, is positive and of class \(C^\infty\).
