This monograph presents an introduction to the propagation of shock waves in solid materials. The author considers the regime of moderate compression, some mathematical models and equations of state for the description of compression. These mathematical models take into account compressibility, elastic-plastic deformation, and elastic and viscoplastic deformation of the medium. The important problems of the propagation and interaction of plane longitudinal shocks are also discussed. Additionally, the author examines the spall fracture, wave propagation in porous solids, and detonation phenomena. Numerous exercises and detailed solutions to them complement the book.
