This paper formulates a mathematical model for the formation of acid rain and for its effect on the growth of plants. The model consists of four differential equations describing water density in the atmosphere. acid-forming gasses in the atmosphere, acid rain, and plant density. Plants are assumed to grow logistically, and acid rain is assumed to increase plant death rate. The authors derive the equilibria of the model and study their stability. In particular, sufficiently high acid rain formation rate can lead to extinction of plants.
