Let \(\mathcal{A}\) denote the mod-\(2\) Steenrod algebra and \({P}_k: = {\mathbb F}_{2}[x_{1},x_{2},\ldots,x_{k}]\) be the graded polynomial algebra over the field \({\mathbb F}_2\) in \(k\) variables \(x_i\) each of degree \(1.\) Let \(E^k\) be the elementary abelian \(2\)-group of rank \(k\) and \(BE^k\) be the classifying space of \(E^k.\) Then \({ P}_k\) is isomorphic to the mod-\(2\) cohomology algebra of \(BE^k,\) and, as such, has a natural module structure over \(\mathcal{A}.\)\N\NThe paper investigates the \textit{Peterson hit problem} of finding a minimal set of generators for \({P}_k\) as a module over \(\mathcal{A}\) or, equivalently, of finding a vector space basis for \( (QP_k)_n := ({\mathbb F}_2 \otimes_{\mathcal{A}} { P_k})_n\) in each degree \(n.\) The author considers the case \(k=5,\) and shows explicitly that the dimension, \N\[\N\dim \left ( (QP_5)_{2^{d+2}+2^{d+1} -3} \right) = 2790,\N\]\Nfor all integers \(d \geq 6.\)
