    In [Commun. Algebra 36, No. 4, 1580--1602 (2008; Zbl 1188.17021)] \textit{R. Velásquez} and \textit{R. Felipe} studied a new product \(\displaystyle x\triangleleft y={1\over 2}(x\dashv y+y\vdash x)\) in a dialgebra over a field \(K\) of characteristic different from 2. This new multiplication satisfies the identities of right commutativity \(x\triangleleft(y\triangleleft z)=x\triangleleft(z\triangleleft y)\) and the right Jordan identity \((y\triangleleft x)\triangleleft x^2=(y\triangleleft x^2)\triangleleft x\), where \(x^2=x\triangleleft x\). Let \(Z^r({\mathfrak J})=\{z\in{\mathfrak J}\mid {\mathfrak J}\triangleleft z=0\}\) and \({\mathfrak J}^{\text{ann}}=\text{span}\{x\triangleleft y-y\triangleleft x\mid x,y\in {\mathfrak J}\}\). If \(I\) is an ideal of \(\mathfrak J\) such that \({\mathfrak J}^{\text{ann}}\subset I\subset Z^r({\mathfrak J})\), then \(\mathfrak J\) is split over \(I\) if \({\mathfrak J}=I\oplus J\) (as vector spaces) for some (Jordan) subalgebra \(J\) of \(\mathfrak J\). Finally, \(\mathfrak J\) is restrictive, if it satisfies the Kolesnikov-Bremner identity \((x,y^2,z)=2(x,y,z)\triangleleft y\), where \((u,v,w)=(u\triangleleft v)\triangleleft w-u\triangleleft(v\triangleleft w)\). This identity holds for dialgebras [\textit{P. S. Kolesnikov}, Sib. Mat. Zh. 49, No. 2, 322--339 (2008); translation in Sib. Math. J. 49, No. 2, 257--272 (2008; Zbl 1164.17002)]; [\textit{M. R. Bremner}, Commun. Algebra 38, No. 12, 4695--4704 (2010; Zbl 1241.17001)]. The main results of the paper under review show that restrictive and split quasi-Jordan algebras with a right unit have an interesting theory of derivations (in particular inner derivations), quadratic representations, and structure groups. As a consequence, the author gives a simple characterization of the automorphisms of \(\mathfrak J\).
